VIGORBOARD REVIEW

First encounter:

I saw it in a shop, but they had no idea on how it works. So I went home, looked it up on the net and found the video you can see on the home page. It looked fun, so I returned to the shop and got one.

Steep learning curve:

I tried it out right away. It was easier than it looked, I managed to maintain balance and advance about 2 meters from my initial push. The second try was a little better, not only for the distance covered (4 meters), but also because I felt some propulsion from my disoriented twisting. From there on, it was all fun. It is not that hard, as the movements come naturally. The trickiest aspect for me was to decide to get on it for the first time. It looks impossible to keep a balance on something so unstable.

200km later:

Surf on land! With the Vigorboard you can achieve speeds of around 20km/h (12,5mph). When you arrive at your destination, you just pick it up and that’s it. I have managed to cover 50km in one day on it and if anyone challenges me, I will do 100! The wheels supplied with the board wear out after about 50km. So be ready to buy more! Actually, it is not that much, considering that it uses only 2 wheels. In comparison with inline skates, which have eight wheels, we come to an equivalent of 200km per set of wheels on the skates.

The board itself withstands any treatment. It is made out of highly durable materials and shows no signs of degradation. I have been using it a lot (have destroyed eight wheels now), and it is more fun every day. After a while, using the board becomes completely natural and you just surf whenever you feel like it.

There are some restrictions as to the terrain, it has to be flat, the flatter it is the more your wheels last ^^. Back to the wheels, they are standard inline wheels 3” or 78mm with hardness of above 84A. The softer the wheels, the better feeling you have, but do not go too soft or you will just throw away your money. Of course, it also depends of the weight of the rider. Mine is about 75Kg or 150pounds.
